El Rey National Park
El Rey NP is about 200 kms. east of Salta, to go there we prefer one day excursions because it's lack of services or acommodations, just a camping.
Once in the park we can do round trip circuits, I mean, we must follow the same way going and coming back, because most of the paths hasn´t got an alternative way.
A very nice excursion is going to Río Popayan, it totals about 32 kms. Others are Cascada El Lobito and the path going up to Pozo Verde (aprox. 10 kms.)
In case you want to have a deeper knowledge of this area you must be prepared to walk among narrow paths in the rain forest, to cross rivers and always been ready to watch a tapir, or a mayuato or a chuña, etc. Off course we'll be with the inevitable company of mosquitos and ticks!!
We start at 07:00 and we'll come back at 19:00. Our lunch?: A good Pic Nic!! Distance: 450 km. on 4x4.
Recommendation: Insects repellent , light clothes with long sleeves (NO shorts), hat or cap, extra clothes , sun protection and patience to take off ticks!
