Quebrada El Toro
to Valle de Lerma
4 days - 3 nights in camp
Trek to Gólgota Hill (3.500 mts.) and Pacuy Hill (4.200 mts.)
This is trekking for those people who are in good shape and are fit to walk 6/7
hours per day at an average elevation of 3.000 Mts.. above sea level with a rise
and fall of 1.000 Mts...
We start the trip by car from Salta city at the morning and, after two hours
driving we get to Ing. Maury (it´s a small village) on the Bull Gorge (on the
track of the train to the clouds).
From this place we start the first day of trekking to the Gólgota hill and
walking uphill 4 hours. We carry heavy backpacks with all of the heading / camp
equipment and 1 1/2 lts. of water for each trekker. After we get to the summit,
we descend (3 Hs.) to our camping place in the foothills by the river bed and
the Incas ruins.

The next day we start the trek up again to the Pacuy hill with the rise and fall
greater than 1100 Mts..(during 5/6 Hs.), and, them we go down to set up the
tents for our high camp at 3.200 Mts.. above sea level where we will see the
Lerma Valley and Salta city so far away.

On the 3th. day we start the descent to the Lerma Valley spending 6/7 hours. We
will hear the sounds of the mountain rivers running down the hills and the fresh
smell of the green vegetation so missed the previous days when we were walking
amongst arid mountains. Them we make the last camp on the river bed.

The 4th day , is the last and very exiting. We have 7 hours to get walking to
San Lorenzo Village situated at only 13 minutes from Salta downtown. We have the
first hour trekking up , them flat, them a little bit up an finally, te last 2
hours are looking the valley (if the weather is good) over the rain forest.

It´s a trip with strong sensations: physical effort, weariness, spectacular
landscapes with a contrasting characteristics, meetings with local people from
the mountains, bad weather, good weather, cold at night, warm during the day,
the clouds below us, the satisfaction of getting to the summit and the happiness
of reaching at the end of the trip to a small village.
This trip we can do in 3 days and 2 night if you do not want to trek up to the
summit (Pacuy hill). It will be less hard. Definitly recomended if you are not
in your best way.
